Pennywise Clown Make-Up Tutorial

Become Pennywise For Halloween With This Make-Up Tutorial

IT Movie - Pennywise

Looking for an easy costume to pull together?

Pennywise is back! It hit the theaters and people are once again becoming terrified of clowns. The movie has set box office records as the highest grossing opening weekend of all time for a horror film taking in more then $300 M in the first two weeks. The classic adaptation of the Stephen King novel takes us to the small town of Derry, Maine, where the children are terrorized by a mysterious, otherworldly creature that takes multiple forms and hides in the sewers. There’s almost no movie that stands the test of time as well, and this remake looks like it may eclipse the original in both it’s horror and it’s storytelling. Just like how we can’t know what Pennywise looks like, we can’t know for sure just yet. But we do know one thing:

It. Is. Terrifying.

Before you go see the movie (or after!) make sure you put the finishing touches on your scary clown costume this Halloween with this incredible It makeup tutorial.

Cover the Pennywise wig with a layer nose and scar wax. Smooth it out with your fingers.

Carve in a cracked texture with a sharp edge- a metal spatula or toothpick will work.

Sponge liquid latex over all of the wax and allow to drop.

We used Pros-Aide to adhere the mask onto the skin. Apply to the forehead where the mask will be making contact.

We stuffed the mask with fabric to help keep the height and placement we wanted.

Use more Pros-Aide to ensure the edges are firmly stuck to the skin.

Go over the entire forehead with white makeup.

Cover all of the face and neck as well.

Use a sponge to help blend, press and set the white makeup into the skin.

Add a smudgy, smokey black liner to the upper and lower lash lines.

Add depth using a very thin brush to add light brown makeup into the cracks on the forehead.

Go over the forehead with another light layer of white makeup.

In order to match the color of the skin to the wig, we added a thin layer of yellow makeup over the face and the lower edge of mask.

Use a sponge to add one more thin layer of white and mellow out the yellow pigment.

Paint on a red lip.

Use a reference photo to map on the curvy line over Pennywise’s cheeks.

Fill in the line so it is good and bold. Repeat on the other side.

Add a red tip to the nose.

Soften the upper edge of the red on the nose so it is not so crisp.

OPTIONAL- Use fake front teeth to give the appearance of “buck teeth.”

Make the look complete with a vintage looking clown costume.
