M. Night Shymalan warranted the respect of this writer with the brilliance of THE SIXTH SENSE back in 1999 and SIGNS in 2002. Some films that followed fell a little short for fans.

Looking forward to the Halloween season and upcoming horror films, scary attractions and all around bloody family fun, I was excited to research the impending release in January 2017 of Shymalan’s SPLIT.  The film stars James McAvoy as Kevin, a man with 23 separate personalities that abducts three teenage girls and holds them captive.  The film also stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Jessica Sula, Haley Lu Richardson and Betty Buckley.

First inclination while watching the trailer, and upon hearing the number 23 mentioned, the brain gravitated towards THE NUMBER 23. Jim Carrey portrayed Walter, a man plagued by guilt for committing murder that another man was convicted of. You all saw it; if not you should. So back to SPLIT, the significance of that number led to questions. Is the 23 Enigma real?  Skeptics will say that everyone reads into it. However, think about it. In SPLIT, while being held captive, the girls begin to meet the 23 personalities of Kevin and learn that they are there for a reason. Suddenly a 24th personality begins to emerge; the beast…2 divided by 3 is .666, the number of the beast. The plot of this movie seems to be rooted in the 23 Enigma.  Start thinking about the number 23, and what significance it has in your own life. Some say this is a conspiracy theory.

What do you think? Regardless, SPLIT looks to be a welcome addition to the horror genre!  We are looking forward to a fresh storyline and new blood!
