After Jame’s Cameron’s Avatar sequel announced last week that it would be bumped yet again, Warner Brothers has quickly filled that spot with their Jason Momoa superhero blast AQUAMAN
As Deadline has noted that December will be the first year since Disney essentially began owning the month that there won’t be a Star Wars film to compete against since that year the as-yet-untitled Young Han Solo film will come out at that May. This has made Avatar’s spot a hot one, and WB jumped at the chance, moving AQUAMAN from its original October 5, 2018, premiere date.
As is often the case, nature abhors a vacuum, and this move created a ripple effect, with several other studios shifting their release dates to fill in the gaps. Sony moved their SPIDER-MAN spinoff VENOM into the October 5th spot and Fede Alvarez’s GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB from its October 5th slot to October 19th.
AQUAMAN stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe and Patrick Wilson, is directed by James Wan and written by Will Beall. Before he hits the waves in his own movie, Momoa will debut his superhero in superstar team up with Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, and Ezra Miller in the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE, which is taking its bow on November 17th.
