The Crow – Reborn Finds Wings At Sony Pictures
This is big news and many fans of The Crow will not be thrilled. Some things are better left untouched. That’s definitely the way fans sounded last year when talk of a reboot started flying around. Sony’s track record with reboots is sketchy at best. Tom Holland learned that when they remade his film ‘Fright Night’. Good idea that didn’t come close to the potential of the original film.
Deadline reports Sony Pictures has emerged as the landing spot for The Crow Reborn, the long-in-the-works reimagining of James O’Barr’s graphic novel that was turned into a 1994 movie starring Brandon Lee and directed by Alex Proyas. The Crow Reborn will reboot the franchise and will be more faithful to O’Barr’s novel. Samuel Hadida’s Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow had previously acquired rights to finance, produce and distribute the film, and Kevin Misher will produce via his Misher Films. Sony will distribute worldwide, and Highland Film Group will sell international rights.
The reboot was originally set up at Relativity Studios before they went bankrupt. Jason Momoa was in talks to take the lead role and The Hallows director Corin Hardy had signed onto direct. When the project fell apart many fans felt it better left alone. With an actor like Momoa fans were curious. Not sure how they will react when the talent for this version is announced but it will be a tightrope kind walk.
Sony needs to take great care with this story as fans have an immense love for it.
