It may come to no surprise to some, but HBO’s increasingly popular fantasy series Game of Thrones has been crowned as the king of torrents, for the fifth year in a row, according to a report at The Wrap. The show has reigned supreme for illegal downloads since 2012.

The number of downloads remains virtually the same, with files of each episode being shared around 350,000 times, the peak arriving shortly after the season finale was made available to file sharing services.

The Wrap also shared the list of the top 10 shows to be downloaded in 2016, which include:

  • Game of Thrones
  • The Walking Dead
  • Westworld
  • The Flash
  • Arrow
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • Vikings
  • Lucifer
  • Suits
  • The Grand Tour

Of interesting note is the number of genre shows on the top 10 list. Besides fantasy shows like Game of Thrones, HBO’s new epic, Westworld, and History’s The Vikings, favorites The Walking Dead and Lucifer reinforce the swell of horror series that have become ever more popular with viewers in the last couple of years. Rounding out the top 5, The Flash and Arrow, both headliners in CW’s new DC Comics lineup, shows the popularity of superhero-led action series.

With the FBI and other governments working with the entertainment industry and constantly shutting down BitTorrent sites across the globe, it will be interesting to see how those numbers will be affected this time next year.

Until then, there is very little question as to who the real king is in this realm.
