Back in 2007, way before the current onslaught of killer clown films that is currently overtaking the horror scene we were treated with the cult classic film, 100 TEARS. Makeup FX maverick, Marcus Koch (ROT, FELL) directed and provided the gore for the film and in the process amazed viewers with the twisted tale of Gurdy the clown. Now in 2016 Gurdy is picking up his weapons of torment and preparing to wreck havoc on a legion of unsuspecting viewers.
When I saw the post of “Who’s ready for more blood?” attached to an image with the date of October 1st from the 100 TEARS Facebook page this morning my obvious answer was “Hell Yes!”. When I first saw the film upon it’s release I was in awe of how Marcus and crew were able to accomplish so much with a limited amount of resources. 100 TEARS is a prime example of how pure passion can fuel a film regardless of budget constraints. In the independent film world especially in the independent horror scene it’s a fight to the death to get a film made and seen by a wide audience and a sequel is even harder which makes the news of 100 TEARS 2 all the more heartwarming to this writer. I reached out to Marcus to get some more information on the sequel and he was kind enough to provide me with these tidbits. “Not too much to tell yet, there is a script, it’s more of an action gore film, though on Oct 1st we’ll have more to reveal, of course Jack Amos is back as Gurdy. , we haven’t begun casting yet, but we hope to be filming by January. I’m stepping down as director and letting my partner Joe Davison direct. This way I can focus more on the gore FX.”
It’s always great to get an update from Marcus and the last bit alone is music to my ears. With Marcus focusing on the FX work this go around we are in for some masterful work that will astonish. With Joe Davison directing the film I have complete confidence that the story will be handled with care since he is also the writer of both films and co-starred in the previous film. Jack Amo’s portrayal of Gurdy in 100 TEARS is a perfect encapsulation of pure violent rage so I’m pumped to see what he adds to the role this time. For those that have yet to see 100 TEARS here’s a brief synopsis: After being accused of crimes he did not commit, a lonely circus clown known onstage as Gurdy (Jack Amos) exacts his revenge on those who unjustly condemned him. The act sparks something inside of him which he cannot stop and now, years later, his inner-demons have truly surfaced. Part urban legend, part tabloid sensationalism… he is now an unstoppable murderous juggernaut, fueled only by hate.
Keep your eyes on Terror Time for more news as October 1st rolls around and in preparation for the sequel I highly recommend you purchase 100 TEARS at the Unearthed Films website so that you’ll be ready to roll once the sequel is out. Here’s a brief NSFW glimpse at some of the FX carnage from 100 TEARS.
