Bollywood Horror Film

There is no denying that the Bollywood industry is one of the most booming film industries in the world. The horror genre has been replicated, originated and often mutilated in a plethora of Indian films throughout the years.

Unknown to most, Indian films have a rather large horror following since the 70’s with films such as 100 DAYS and PHIR WOHI RAAT. These types of films brought on a pyschological fear that still seems to remain unmatched.

RAAZ was originally released in 2002 and was the second highest grossing Bollywood film that year. The film follows the classic story of a couple that move into a new home only to find that it is haunted by a sinister presence.  As the wife digs deeper, she comes to the realization that her husband may have something to do with the hauntings and is a loose adaptation of Michelle Pfeiffer’s, WHAT LIES BENEATH.

Indian film director, producer and screenwriter Vikram Bhatt’s RAAZ franchise added a fourth installment to the popular horror series. A  slew of teaser trailers  for RAAZ REBOOT was released this week. The film will star Emraan Hashmi, Kriti Kharanda and Gaurav Arora. Filmed in Transylvania, Emraan takes on the role of a drug addict fashion photographer.

Although I grew up speaking Hindi, I will most certainly be using the subtitles. RAAZ REBOOT will hit theaters on September 16. It will be interesting to see how a fourth addition will fare with the horror audience.
