Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival is right around the corner with pretty much every film in the line-up ticking our, “That sounds groovy. Must see!” boxes. One that’s grabbed our particular attention is the World Premiere of the supernatural dramatic horror film SHOW YOURSELF, the debut feature from writer/director Billy Ray Brewton.
Heavily inspired in classics such as THE CHANGELING or HOUSE, SHOW YOURSELF follows a successful art-house actor, Travis (Ben Hethcoat), who heads to the woods with the ashes of his longtime friend Paul to bid one last farewell. Attempting to grieve his friend’s untimely death on his own terms, curiosity turns to horror as Travis finds himself in the middle of nowhere and face-to-face with something that doesn’t seem all too keen for the letting go process to run as smoothly as hoped.
Brewton saw SHOW YOURSELF as his chance to pay homage to the horror films of the ’70s and ’80s that inspired him:
“We took all of the traditional horror tropes that helped define the genre, and turned them all on their heads. It’s a ghost story for a modern generation, with the isolation from technology taking the guise of the spooky old house on the hill.”
SHOW YOURSELF also co-stars Corsica Wilson (L.A. MACABRE), Barak Hardley (MOCKINGBIRD), Clancy McCartney (the upcoming YOUTH GROUP), David McElwee (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), Stephen Cone (THE WISE KIDS), and veteran character actor, Robert Longstreet (TAKE SHELTER, THE SIGNAL).
Produced in conjunction with Wizard World Chicago, and sponsored by Shudder, Bloody Disgusting, and the Starz series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival will celebrate its third year this August 18-21. Attendees can catch SHOW YOURSELF on the Friday, August 19 at 10pm, after a special preview screening of the Season 2 premiere of “Ash vs. Evil Dead.”
