There’s always one good thing that can almost always be counted on when a movie is re-made or rebooted and that is that no matter how good or bad the re-make may be, it will always bring some attention to the original film. Needless to say, when the announcement was made that the long talked about theatrical remake of Stephen King’s IT was going to be made a reality, we began to hear rumors and talk about the very long over due blu ray release of the 1990 classic mini series which stars genre favorite Tim Curry and was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace who is most well known for making his mark directing films such as Halloween III and Fright Night II. Well with time rumor’s became official announcements and EW tipped us off last week that we will have a street date of September 20th for the release. This is very exciting news as a blu ray for IT is something that fans have been demanding for years and I’m honestly baffled that its taken this long to finally happen. There will also be an option to buy a limited edition set that comes with the t-shirt pictured above for the those who are not satisfied with a standard edition.
But IT is not the not the only thing King fans have to look forward to on the 20th. EW also reported that the the Tobe Hooper directed Salem’s Lot will be released alongside IT from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment with a brand new commentary from the director known for his classic’s such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist. On top of that the horror anthology Cats Eye will also get a blu ray release on the same day. I don’t know about all of you, but with Halloween rapidly approaching, its looking like I’ll be working a few new Stephen King titles into my annual October marathon.
