Deadpool was all the rage with it’s over the top violence and razor sharp dialog. In 2017 James Mangold is going to bring the comic book violence with razor sharp claws when Logan hits cinemas. This is Hugh Jackman’s last go around as Wolverine and from the looks and sounds thus far it seems they are going full blast for the going away party.
In a recent interview with Flicks and the City 2 Mangold had this to say about the last go around for our favorite comic anti-hero.
“I think the biggest challenging part is being confident because so many of these other films have more money, frankly, and more spectacle. To being confident in believing that a movie like this can function on the power of drama first, instead of having some supervillain or planets colliding, that the movie first and foremost, its dramatic engine is running the emotional relationships between the characters… the thing we’re trying to do differently is trying to invest in character.”
This statement definitely bucks the trend of studio tentpole films especially when said film is a billion dollar cash cow. Kudos to James Mangold and crew for standing their ground and making the film that both Hugh Jackman and the Wolverine character deserve.
