David Oyelowo knows a few things about space travel. In 2014 Christopher Nolan sent him through a wormhole to help save the future of humanity in INTERSTELLAR. Now J.J. Abrams is sending him into orbit to discover new things in the upcoming GOD PARTICLE. But he’s quick to point out that that’s where the similarities end. In speaking to The Wrap, Oyelowo said:

The only connection I would say is both films involve space and both films involve me. That’s about as much connection I can see between the two,” said Oyelowo.

Of course, there’s little else that he can say about GOD PARTICLE, as J.J. Abrams is notorious for keeping things under wraps for his films, including most plot details and character information. We know that it takes place on a space station and that a shocking experiment leads to a fight for survival in an altered reality. Oh, and by the way, the Julius Onah-directed film is going to be connected to the CLOVERFIELD universe.  Yeah, there’s that.

Another thing he could talk about is the scale of the new film, “Every single day we were on that set we were agog with the inventiveness and innovation, between the technology, the story and the audacity of what we were trying to accomplish. It’s an incredibly exciting and innovative piece of storytelling. It’s incredibly surprising.”

Oyelowo also commented on the importance of diversity in Hollywood, and how Abrams is contributing to that, “Myself and Gugu Mbatha-Raw are front and center of that movie. You saw J.J. do that with John Boyega and Daisy Ridley in ‘Star Wars’ – with a black actor and a young female actor. He has taken it upon himself to be the change that he now wants to see.”

We’re left with a lot of questions about this film, including “What’s this thing going to be about?” and “How does this expand the CLOVERFIELD universe?” Will it explain the origins of the first film or will it go the route of 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE? GOD PARTICLE will also star Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O’Dowd, Daniel Bruhl, Ziyi Zhang, Aksel Hennie, and John Ortiz.

We’ll get the answers to all of our questions when GOD PARTICLE releases on February 24th, 2017.
