Veteran actor David Margulies is dead today at the age of 78. His passing was confirmed to CNN by his agent Harry Abrams.  He had a massive career spanning five decades but was most well known for his role as the mayor in ‘Ghostbusters’ and its sequel.

Margulies was born in New York City on February 19, 1937. He got his start off Broadway before getting his first film role as Walter Mitty in 1972 in the musical/comedy ‘Scarecrow in a Garden of Cucumbers.’ On top of his immense contribution to the ‘Ghostbusters’ films he’ll be most remembered for his roles in ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ and ‘The Sopranos.’

He recently finished filming his last role as Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel for the upcoming four-hour miniseries ‘Madoff’ set to air on ABC in February.
