Tales From The Crypt Update
Remember last year when every was super pissed that M. Knight Shyamalan has to clear up rumors that he was getting rid of the crypt keeper on the Tales From The Crypt reboot? Ah the good ole days. Turns out that was the most action the reboot ever got because it’s been stuck in legal limbo ever since. TNT who was to produce the series has been stuck trying untangle the property rights and it sounds like things are not going anywhere.
Back in April the Network released this statement: “The underlying rights to the classic, vintage property are complicated. … TNT and others have been pursuing a solution for more than a year, with significant progress being made. We look forward to the potential for further active development of this valuable franchise once the clearance process is fully resolved.”
The Network President Kevin Reilly was at the TCA panel yesterday speaking when he was asked for an update on the series. “It’s been fun with lawyers, it’s been really fun,” “We did not know from the get-go or else we would not have announced it and made a big deal out of it. But in fact there were rights. It is among the most — if not the most — complicated rights structure I’ve ever seen in my career, and we had no idea as we got into it. It became a nightmare. So we said, ‘Fine.’ If and when this gets cleaned up, we’ll revisit.”
So that’s the update and it appears it is going nowhere. I’m sure fans of the original will be happy as many did not want the reboot to happen at all.
